When I first started painting, I worked for several years in oils. Tired of the mess and smell of oil paints, I switched to watercolours on paper. For many years I enjoyed the subtilties of this medium, and learned many interesting techniques along the way. One of the main limitations of watercolours is the size of the paper available. I find with Acrylics on canvas, being water based, I can use many of the "wet on wet" techniques I have developed with watercolours, but also use the thick layering techniques of oil painting. More importantly, size is not limited. Large canvases can be very effective for the larger walls seen in modern homes.
